All the fun of the fair – and a whole lot more!
Join the traditional festivities in the ancient Sussex village of Alfriston, one of the prettiest spots in the South Downs National Park.
The beautiful village green in front of the Norman church has hosted a summer fair for generations. Now it’s grown to a four-day festival for all the family.
You’ll find old-fashioned games of skill like tilt the bucket, toss the bale, bowl for a pig, and wellie-throwing, along with a fun fair that’ll take you back in time – not forgetting pony rides and a bouncy castle for the kids.
There are stalls full of great local produce, tea and cakes in the village hall, prize draws, historic walking tours, a classic car show – and that’s not all!
Don’t forget the art exhibition, dog show, band music, Morris dancing, a guided tour of Britain’s biggest new vineyard…plus even more attractions in a full four-day programme of events that truly have something for everybody.
Why not make a weekend of it and stay in one of the village’s wonderful mediaeval pubs or charming B&BS? For more information see - http://www.alfriston-village.co.uk/accommodation
And while you’re here don’t forget to visit the National Trust’s very first property, the Clergy House, acquired for the sum of £10 in 1896. The rare 14th-century thatched house is in an idyllic setting, with views across the River Cuckmere.
In spite of an ever-changing programme, the aim of the Festival has always remained the same - to give as much enjoyment to as many people as possible, both villagers and visitors, and to raise money for local organisations and charities.
So come along and join the fun…..Alfriston is waiting to welcome you.
