Have you seen the new yellow estate agent boards around Seaford and Alfriston advertising Simon Welch estate agent? Perhaps you thought oh no not another estate agent in Seaford, offering the same old thing! To be honest I did too until I had the pleasure of meeting up with Simon to hear about his ideas on how he could support the community.

Entering their offices on Clinton Place in Seaford the warm welcome you receive is different from others estate agents. If you are anything like me I really find an estate agents offices generally not the most welcoming of environments, In the tim...

On Wednesday 18th March over 30 family, friends, colleagues and local residents came together at the The Star Inn, Alfriston to surprise and thank a very special couple, Liz and David Philips.

Long standing resident and chairman of the Alfriston Events Team, Ray Savage, tells us here, why the many committees in the village have felt it necessary to come together to honour Liz and David in this way.

Ray said: “Liz and David came to Alfriston taking over the running of the Post Office and Village Store in 1975 and making this their home. The Village Store is the heart of a village and...

The early morning sun rising over St Andrews Church, Alfriston set the beautiful scene last Thursday for Simon Jenkins from BBC Radio Sussex to report from our beautiful Village - The Eastern Gateway to the South Downs.

Using the power of social media (especially twitter), the Alfriston Events Team were able to invite and welcome Simon to the village to participate in the day four slot of the ‘village people tour’ series aired each morning last week.

Just before 7am the Old Chapel Centre opened its doors with the smell of hot coffee and chocolate biscuits to welcome members of the Ev...

A chilly and cloudy morning was made brighter with a visit for brunch to a wonderful jewel in the village, Chestnuts of Alfriston, a Bed & Breakfast with a fantastic Tearoom.

Chestnuts are situated at the bottom of the High Street virtually opposite the Coach House Galley.

Taken over by Malcolm and Mary two years ago, this little gem of a tearoom continues too serve not only super and friendly customer service to all that enter, but an extremely high standard of beautifully cooked food, a wonderful array of tasty looking baked treats including a selection of gluten free cakes and lig...

Memories of days gone by at the 32nd Alfriston Dickensian Christmas evening

Well what is there to say, once again the Alfriston Christmas Dickensian was a truly magnificent day, the weather was kind and amazingly mild for the time of year, some had even removed their coats and were walking around in shirtsleeves! The road through the High Street was closed at 2pm and this year was very kindly marshaled by cheerful volunteers from the 'Band of Brothers'.

Huge crowds of visitors flocked to the village from 2.30pm when the bells of St Andrews Church rang out to welcome ever...

Being a relative newcomer in the village of Alfriston I have enjoyed listening to many stories about the village history, and its past from villagers.

This beautiful village is filled with much wonderful and interesting history dating back to Saxon times. Recently I was delighted to come across a BBC article on the web that had been written by an Alfriston villager named Ronald Levett in 2003 'Alfriston, My life in a country village’ is his story of growing up in Alfriston and how his time was spent during World War II. With November being the month of remembrance, It felt right to...

On Friday 17th October, in this very village of Alfriston a special award ceremony took place, which I felt very honoured to be invited to.  Many of you may or may not be aware but Alfriston, and the surrounding Cuckmere Valley are privileged to have a dedicated team of volunteers known as the 'Alfriston and Cuckmere Heartstart Voluntary Community First Responders', who in conjunction with South East Coast Ambulance Service; was set up to train a team of Volunteers to use Defibrillators and to attend certain types of 999 calls once dispatched by Ambulance Control to aid patients bef...
