Memories of days gone by at the 32nd Alfriston Dickensian Christmas evening

 

Well what is there to say, once again the Alfriston Christmas Dickensian was a truly magnificent day, the weather was kind and amazingly mild for the time of year, some had even removed their coats and were walking around in shirtsleeves! The road through the High Street was closed at 2pm and this year was very kindly marshaled by cheerful volunteers from the 'Band of Brothers'.
 

 

Huge crowds of visitors flocked to the village from 2.30pm when the bells of St Andrews Church rang out to welcome ever...

Being a relative newcomer in the village of Alfriston I have enjoyed listening to many stories about the village history, and its past from villagers.

 

This beautiful village is filled with much wonderful and interesting history dating back to Saxon times. Recently I was delighted to come across a BBC article on the web that had been written by an Alfriston villager named Ronald Levett in 2003 'Alfriston, My life in a country village’ is his story of growing up in Alfriston and how his time was spent during World War II.
