We would like to thank everyone so much for their participation and contribution to the Skills Café in Alfriston.

The Event was organised and funded by the Cuckmere Valley Transition Group. The idea of the event was to offer the community an experience where people could come together and offer views and exchange crafts and skills.

Admission to the event was free, as was the table space for the exhibitors. The organisations had booked the Alfriston War Memorial Hall and the Old Chapel Centre, and later the rector of St Andrews Church kindly offered the church space to host further exh...

The early morning sun rising over St Andrews Church, Alfriston set the beautiful scene last Thursday for Simon Jenkins from BBC Radio Sussex to report from our beautiful Village - The Eastern Gateway to the South Downs.

Using the power of social media (especially twitter), the Alfriston Events Team were able to invite and welcome Simon to the village to participate in the day four slot of the ‘village people tour’ series aired each morning last week.

Just before 7am the Old Chapel Centre opened its doors with the smell of hot coffee and chocolate biscuits to welcome members of the Ev...

A guest blog 'borrowed', with thanks from www.thebookshoparoundthecorner.co.uk about 'our' Book Shop in Alfriston Village.

Tired of the depressing way Valentine's Day has been corrupted by happy couples*, this year instead of hibernating and avoiding all the hearts, I decided to take control and indulge my own passion: I took a literary road trip.

The bookshop part of my journey was Much Ado Books in Alfriston. From the road there's not much to see, but I knew there was something special about the bookshop the moment I stepped into the entry courtyard and saw bundles of damaged books...

A chilly and cloudy morning was made brighter with a visit for brunch to a wonderful jewel in the village, Chestnuts of Alfriston, a Bed & Breakfast with a fantastic Tearoom.

Chestnuts are situated at the bottom of the High Street virtually opposite the Coach House Galley.

Taken over by Malcolm and Mary two years ago, this little gem of a tearoom continues too serve not only super and friendly customer service to all that enter, but an extremely high standard of beautifully cooked food, a wonderful array of tasty looking baked treats including a selection of gluten free cakes and lig...

Memories of days gone by at the 32nd Alfriston Dickensian Christmas evening

Well what is there to say, once again the Alfriston Christmas Dickensian was a truly magnificent day, the weather was kind and amazingly mild for the time of year, some had even removed their coats and were walking around in shirtsleeves! The road through the High Street was closed at 2pm and this year was very kindly marshaled by cheerful volunteers from the 'Band of Brothers'.

Huge crowds of visitors flocked to the village from 2.30pm when the bells of St Andrews Church rang out to welcome ever...

Being a relative newcomer in the village of Alfriston I have enjoyed listening to many stories about the village history, and its past from villagers.

This beautiful village is filled with much wonderful and interesting history dating back to Saxon times. Recently I was delighted to come across a BBC article on the web that had been written by an Alfriston villager named Ronald Levett in 2003 'Alfriston, My life in a country village’ is his story of growing up in Alfriston and how his time was spent during World War II. With November being the month of remembrance, It felt right to...
