The Alfriston War Memorial Hall

Probably one of the most attractive village halls in the region, the War Memorial Hall is located in the heart of the picturesque village of Alfriston, nestled in the South Downs National Park, next to St Andrews Church –  often referred to as ‘The Cathedral of the South Downs’.

With direct access on to The Tye (Alfriston’s village green) the Hall enjoys stunning views across the Cuckmere River and the valley beyond.

Refurbished and maintained to a high standard, the Hall offers spacious and versatile accommodation. The Main Hall has a beautiful oak floor and doors opening onto a large patio, which in turn is open to The Tye. There is a well equipped kitchen, a smaller meeting room (which can be hired separately), a versatile stage, and separate male, female, & disabled WC facilities.

A note to local residents

This is your village hall, managed by a small and dedicated team, and apart from the part time Hall Manager, this is all on a voluntary basis. The Hall is self-funding, with income raised through the hirer charges. These rates are set with significant concessions available to local residents.

The Hall is a registered charity, and is always extremely grateful to receive donations, some of which are given for a specific project or item, which makes them very personal. If ever you feel that you are in a position to make a donation, we would be delighted to discuss it with you.

An easy way to donate is by Gift Aiding through the Charities Aid foundation. You can find out more information by following the link www.cafonline.org

Have you joined our 300 Club? You don’t have to be a village resident to take

part. Just £10 for the year will enter you in 12 monthly draws. Prizes are £50, £30 and £20 each month. You can join at any time of the year. All profits raised are donated to help maintain our wonderful village hall. History

The original School Room was built on this site in 1810, which was joined in 1844 by the Schoolmaster’s House, the lovely flint cottage running across the front of the current Hall. In 1908 the use as a school ceased with the opening of the ‘new’ school in North Road which continues to flourish today.

The Hall was extended in 1972 and renamed The War Memorial Hall. The Hall underwent substantial alteration and refurbishment in the late 1990s with further improvements since and maintenance to a high standard. It provides a wonderful venue for all occasions.
