The Alfriston Playground
Alfriston Playground is in a corner of Alfriston Recreation Ground, just off The Broadway.
Although in a residential area, it also enjoys an enviable scenic location, just 200m from the South Downs Way, with views of the South Downs and the sheep in the fields.
It serves Alfriston village and neighbouring villages who do not have a playground, and is an important resource for local families.
The playground is opposite Alfriston Primary school and is often used as a base for after school play and socialising.
The playground is also adjacent to Alfriston Cricket Club, and families of the Cricket Club and visiting teams often use it during matches

Please report any playground safety concerns or incidents to the Clerk of the Parish Council (website link)

The New Playground
The playground was renovated in February 2023

The funds to do so were raised by community fundraising, a crowdfunding campaign and sponsorship by local businesses, as well as with funds from Alfriston Parish Council, East Sussex County Council and a large grant from Veolia Environmental Trust.
The Friends of Alfriston Playground led a year-long community consultation on the playground design and led the fundraising, and the project was supported by Alfriston Parish Council.
The playground now has a range of wooden equipment including: swings (toddler and child), saucer swing; balance beams; log climber climbing frame; wooden fort with slide, firefighter pole, climbing grips and rope bridges; and an under 5s multiplay unit with towers, slide and bridge.
There is also a log circle, a nature magnifying post, and planters (maintained by Alfriston Nature Club). The playground has a little book swap library where people can leave their unwanted children’s books and choose books to take home.
You can find out about the playground’s news and events by joining the Friends of Alfriston Playground Facebook page.
Alfriston Parish Council are responsible for the safety and maintenance of the playground and any issues should be reported to the clerk. Please see the parish website www.alfristonparishcouncil.org.uk
