Alfriston Dickensian will take place at the following locations: High Street, Market Square, St. Andrews Church and on the Tye.

 

The following road closures and temporary diversions will be in place on Saturday 19th November from 1pm – 10pm

 

Roads Closed:

Littlington junction with North Street

West Street from Market Square

High Street junction with Weavers Lane

Star Lane junction with the High Street

 

Temporary Diversion:

Winton Street will be used for traffic to exit the village only.  NO traffic will be allowed up Winton Street to gain

access to the village.  PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS ROUTE TO THE VILLAGE.

 

THERE IS NO ACCESS TO

ALFRISTON VILLAGE FROM THE A27 – THE ONLY ACCESS IS BY USING THE PARK AND RIDE

 

ACCESS TO THE VILLAGE IS ONLY FROM THE A259/SEAFORD via Weavers Lane.

 

Road closures will be professionally marshalled by 4x4 Assist and NOT by members of the Alfriston Emergency Group or Alfriston Events Team. There will be strictly NO access available for anyone (excluding emergency vehicles) into the village from the A27 from 1pm - 10pm on Saturday 19th November.

 

We would appreciate your help and support with the road closures to help us ensure your safety and to help us in the smooth running, of what is a very large event for the village.

Park and Ride

This year we have secured a ‘Park and Ride’ facility based in Common Lane, between Selmeston and Berwick. Common Lane will be closed to general traffic between 1pm and 10.15pm for parking only to visitors of the Alfriston Dickensian Event only.

 

A STRICT one way operation will be in place, visitors will be directed by signs to enter the Park and Ride facility via the Selmeston end of Common Lane (SAT NAV 50.838285, 0.140438 or BN26 6UE) NO ATTEMPT SHOULD BE MADE TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE PARK AND RIDE FROM BERWICK.

 

Exit is via the Berwick end of Common Lane ONLY.

There are around 400 spaces available and the lane will be well lit by temporary flood lights.

The Park and Ride scheme will be 

professionally marshalled by 4x4 Assist.

 

Beeline Travel 

www.beelinetraveleastbourne.co.uk  have very kindly stepped in this year to support the Park and Ride scheme and will be supplying 3 x 49 seater coaches which will run from visible temporary bus stops along Common Lane (marked A, B, C, D, E and F)

A ticket seller will be at each of the bus stops so you can purchase tickets before boarding the coach.

 

Return bus stops in the village to the Park and Ride will also be marshalled to help visitors return safely.

**Please note that there will be no disabled accessible coach for wheelchair users at the Park and Ride site, there will however be limited disabled parking made available in the village, please contact

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The last bus from Alfriston village to the Park and Ride will leave at 10.00pm sharp.

 

All Cars MUST be cleared from the Park and Ride Area by 10.15pm as the Road will re-open to traffic from this time.

 

Alfriston Events take NO 

responsibility for any loss or damage 

to cars left at the Common Lane Park and Ride site.

 

We ask you to respect all our volunteer stewards and marshals who help to keep everyone safe during the Dickensian event. Irresponsible behaviour or abuse will not be tolerated at any time.

 

This year we have not been able to secure an increase in trains stopping at Berwick with Southern Rail. We suggest that you check your travel arrangements with Southern Rail before travelling, including your onward travel to the village from the station.

 

If you do travel by train and wish to take the Park and Ride bus, it is approximately a 0.5m walk from the station to the Park and Ride site.
